Individual Binding Services
Work listed and described is not limited to these items alone.
Family Bibles - We may be able to save much of the original structure, depending on the condition of structure and paper. Some examples: use original front and back covers along with the old spine (or just the front or just spine or a combination of these items). We may be able to save the original sewing (binding) but add new covers. New covers may include a name imprint or other additions to personalize your Bible.
Books - A childhood storybook or a 100-year old family book, to the new book you already read 100 times, you can give the book a lift, have the book rebound, saving as much of the original structure as possible, or start with all new.
Magazines - Make your collection of magazines into a one volume or multiple volume set. Will look great and will be easy to find, all bound together, and at your fingertips.
Reference Books, Dictionaries, Textbooks - You have already invested time and money into these items and items of this nature. When pages start falling out, covers are looking rough around the edges, before the use of tape, staples, and yes, even duct tape, let Ridley's restore these items to good condition. (Damage done by the use of tapes and staples may be irreversible and or costly to repair.)
Conservation (enclosures for rare or fragile items) - Conservation is an option when books can no longer be bound due to the fragile condition, or for those first edition books, rare volumes, and single sheets of documents. Ridley’s Book Bindery offers Archival Boxes, Cased Archival Boxes, Cover with Pockets, Half or Full Portfolio’s, Single or Double slipcases. All items are custom made to order.
Ridley’s Book Bindery uses material of the highest quality. Choice of Poly-Cotton Buckram or Poly-Cotton C-cloth or Leather (pig skin). Endpapers are acid free.

Custom (class A) Periodical - Collation shall include one or all of the following services per instruction from the customer: Custom placement of title page, table of contents, index, supplements and other inserts; removal of covers and unpaginated advertising at the front and back of each issue; inspection to ensure correct order of issues; and examination for completeness and defects. When a defect is found, we will call you to determine if you wish us to go ahead and bind the volume.
Standard Periodical (SS) - Collation shall include inspection for completeness and correct order of issues. Title page, table of contents, index, supplements, and other inserts shall be bound in the order in which the binder receives them from the customer. Covers are not removed. Advertisements shall be left in place. Incomplete or defective volumes shall be returned to customer or bound as is.
Advantage Binding (AV) - Material to be bound is treated the same as a standard binding. Difference is all volumes are double-fan adhesive. (Advantage Binding is a wide-hinged volume designed for photocopying. The wide hinges allow the volume to open better, lay flatter on a photocopier, eliminating the loss of text and /or waviness in copies.)
Budget Advantage (BA) - Material to be bound is not inspected for completeness and correct order of issues. It is bound exactly as received. Using the wide hinged process. All volumes are double-fan adhesive.
Quarter Bind (QQ) - Another wide-hinge, double-fan adhesive binding. It differs from Advantage Binding in that the covering material is Group F Buckram and covers approximately one-quarter of the front and back cover. The remainder of the cover is binder's boards. In addition there is no spine inlay to stiffen the spine. It is bound flush with the covers on all sides. Material to be bound is not inspected for completeness and correct order of issues. Bound exactly as received.
Clearcovers - Cover is removed from the book and covered with a 1.5 mill clear Mylar-type material and glued to binder’s board. Books are double-fan adhesive.
Paperbacks - Covers are not removed. Book is double-fan adhesive and covered with a durable C-1 grade book cloth. Color of the cover material is at the binder's discretion.
Book Monographs (AA) - A single text block that can be bound without requiring the binder to match the spine lettering and/or color of cover to that of another volume. Has no volume or year.
Book Monographs (AV) - Same as above using the Advantage Binding method. (Wide hinge)

Double Slipcase - Starts as a single slipcase then a second box is made that slips over the first box enclosing this box inside the second. Thumbholes are made to make it easier to remove volumes from the enclosures. Minimum thickness required is 3/4-inch. Benefits: A double slipcase fully covers the enclosed volume; adds durability to the case.

Half Portfolio (2-Flaps) - A wrap-around style enclosure consisting of a front and back cover with a multi-flap enclosure attached to the back cover. A flap is made from a manila tag. These are used to protect prints, manuscript items that require a snug special support.
Full Portfolio (3-Flaps) - Same as half portfolio but with three flaps all made out of Buckram/C-cloth. The flaps of the enclosure completely cover the contents. Benefits: constructed using conservational-sound materials, F-grade Buckram or C-grade book cloth.
Brittle Book Replacement - For books that are out of print and the original book is unusable. The original book is taken apart and made into single pages. Pages are then scanned by hand and reproduced by a copier. The copied book is then trimmed to the original size. The original book is then returned to you. There is no minimum thickness required. The book is then bound as Class A monograph with choice of Buckram or C-cloth.
Cover With Pocket - Can be used for any items that are smaller than the 3/4-inch minimum material that you do not wish to pad. A cloth pocket is made from choice of Group F Buckram or C-cloth and a book cover is made and pocket is glued in.
